This week’s Friday Night SmackDown is the final Blue brand show before the highly anticipated Crown Jewel 2024 PLE in Saudi Arabia. With many stars already in transit, WWE pre-taped the episode at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center following last week’s show. Featuring top stars like Cody Rhodes, Roman Reigns, Jey Uso, Randy Orton, and Bianca Belair, SmackDown promises to set the stage for the big event in Saudi Arabia.
The night opens with Montez Ford and Angelo Dawkins of The Street Profits, joined by B-Fab, as they take on Elton Prince and Kit Wilson of Pretty Deadly. The Street Profits recently fell short in the tag team contenders’ tournament, and they’re looking to bounce back in this encounter.
Bianca Belair and Jade Cargill, who will defend their WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship at Crown Jewel, prepare for the challenge with a high-stakes Fatal 4-Way preview. One representative from each competing team, including Iyo Sky, Kairi Sane, Chelsea Green, Piper Niven, Lash Legend, and Jakara Jackson, will meet in the ring on SmackDown to preview the tag team chaos.
Ahead of their upcoming “Champion vs. Champion” bout for the inaugural Crown Jewel Championship, WWE Women’s World Champion Liv Morgan faces WWE Women’s Champion Nia Jax in singles competition. Money in the Bank winner Tiffany Stratton will also square off against Morgan, hoping to weaken her for Jax before their title match in Saudi Arabia.
On the tag team front, Naomi and Candice LeRae clashed last week, only for Indi Hartwell to interfere against Naomi. Bayley intervened, leading to a tag team showdown scheduled for this episode, promising high drama in the women’s division.
Roman Reigns, Jimmy Uso, and Jey Uso are set to deliver a promo as the original Bloodline reunites after thwarting Solo Sikoa’s interference during the WWE Tag Team Championship match last week. This reunion will be essential as they prepare to take on Solo’s faction at Crown Jewel.
The main event features Randy Orton and Cody Rhodes facing WWE Heavyweight Champion Gunther and Ludwig Kaiser from Imperium. This match comes after a backstage assault on Rhodes by Gunther and Kaiser, which led to Orton stepping in for support. Rhodes and Gunther’s rivalry will culminate at Crown Jewel, where Orton will also have his own grudge match against Kevin Owens.
