The 38th annual Royal Rumble is set to take place on Saturday, February 1, 2025, at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana, marking the first time the event won’t take place in January. This year will also be a historic one for WWE as it marks their first Pay-Per-View and live-streaming event to air on Netflix in most markets outside the US, following the WWE Network’s shift to the platform in January 2025. As we’re already deep into October, WWE has begun to slowly build up to the event, setting the stage for what promises to be a massive show.

John Cena has announced that 2025 will be his final year with WWE, confirming that both WrestleMania 41 and Royal Rumble 2025 will be his last appearances at those events. This opens up the perfect opportunity for Cena to capture his 17th world title and break Ric Flair’s record of 16 title reigns. The most fitting way to book this would be for Cena to win the Royal Rumble and face Gunther for the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania 41. Alternatively, Cena could win the Elimination Chamber, but the idea of him capturing the Rumble win and headlining WrestleMania for one last title run seems the most likely. Given these circumstances, the odds of Cena winning the Royal Rumble this year are very high.

Charlotte Flair, who has been sidelined since December 8, 2023, due to a torn ACL, MCL, and meniscus, is expected to make her return just in time for the Royal Rumble. Her absence has given fans some time to reflect, and they are likely to rally behind her when she returns. By this point, it’s likely Tiffany Stratton will have cashed in her Money in the Bank contract on Nia Jax for the WWE Women’s Championship. This could set up Charlotte’s big return at the Rumble, where she could win and challenge Stratton for the title at WrestleMania 41, creating a dream match that fans have been eagerly anticipating.

Roman Reigns has made it clear to Cody Rhodes that their alliance at Bad Blood 2024 is temporary, and once he’s done with his family affairs, he will go after the WWE Undisputed Championship. If WWE proceeds with the Bloodline Civil War Games match at Survivor Series, followed by a Tribal Combat match between Solo Sikoa and Roman at Crown Jewel, it’s expected that Roman will emerge victorious in both encounters. With the Bloodline storylines potentially concluded, Reigns will be free to challenge Cody Rhodes for the Undisputed Championship at the Royal Rumble. This match could even headline the event before the traditional Royal Rumble match.

As for The Rock, his return to WWE is likely to happen during Monday Night Raw’s debut on Netflix, but it’s unlikely he’ll become a regular part of the show before the Royal Rumble due to his packed schedule. However, The Rock is almost certain to appear at the Rumble. There are two possible scenarios for his involvement. He could enter the Rumble as a surprise entrant and win, setting up a match with Cody Rhodes for the Undisputed Championship at WrestleMania. However, since we predict that John Cena will win the Rumble, The Rock could have a different role that ties into our previous prediction.

If Roman Reigns and Cody Rhodes face off at the Royal Rumble, both being somewhat babyfaces at the moment, there might not be a definitive winner. This opens the door for The Rock to interfere, attacking Cody Rhodes to fulfill his promise of coming after him, champion or not. This could lead to a dream confrontation between The Rock and Roman Reigns, with Jacob Fatu potentially making an appearance to attack Reigns, setting up a showdown between the two at WrestleMania.

Logan Paul, who has been on hiatus since losing the United States Championship to LA Knight at SummerSlam, is expected to return to WWE at the Royal Rumble. His time away allowed him to focus on his family, but the Rumble will be the perfect stage for his comeback. On the other hand, Brock Lesnar’s return is more uncertain, given the serious allegations he is facing. WWE has recently listed Lesnar as an active competitor, but his return would likely be delayed until the charges against him are resolved. If Lesnar does return, he could potentially face someone like Bron Breakker or Oba Femi from NXT, setting up a dream match between Lesnar and Breakker at WrestleMania.
