Tonight, March 22, 2025, Leon Edwards and Sean Brady will battle it out in the main event of UFC London at The O2 Arena in London, England.
Edwards’ five-round loss to Belal Muhammad was a challenging one, as “Rocky” looked off his game and ended up getting thrown on his head by an opponent he didn’t take seriously. Despite this, Edwards managed to win two rounds, which gives fans hope that he can get his career back on track. Brady, who also suffered a loss to “The Bully,” has bounced back with consecutive wins and remains one of the top contenders in the division. At 32 years old, and approaching his 20th fight, Brady is at his peak and is ready to make a run at the UFC Welterweight title.
There’s no denying Edwards’ talent. He’s a well-rounded kickboxer with excellent form and an arsenal of dangerous techniques, especially in the clinch and at long range. His wrestling is also exceptional—Edwards became the first Welterweight to figure out how to stop Kamaru Usman’s relentless takedowns and even managed to take him down. But despite his skills, Edwards has sometimes struggled due to his lack of urgency and poor ring craft. He’s been content to fight at his opponent’s pace rather than taking control, which has led to tighter fights than necessary. Additionally, he tends to back himself into the fence, making it harder to defend against both strikes and takedowns. If Edwards can improve his aggression and avoid getting trapped on the fence, he could make significant strides. While Brady is a competent striker, he’s not a power puncher like Edwards, who is sharper and hits harder. If Edwards can dictate the pace, he has the advantage in striking, and he can keep Brady on the back foot while avoiding takedowns.
Brady, on the other hand, is a fantastic submission grappler and chain wrestler with dominant top control. His striking has also improved over the years, but his best path to victory is through wrestling. He will need to have success on the feet to keep Edwards cautious, but Brady will likely rely on takedown attempts to win the fight. He’s likely to try and follow the same approach as Muhammad, using constant pressure and chain wrestling to wear down Edwards. One key aspect of Muhammad’s success was his refusal to let Edwards build any momentum—whenever Edwards landed a good strike, Muhammad would keep pushing forward, not allowing him to reset. For Brady, the biggest challenge will be his comfort in exchanges. He’s never looked completely at ease in a firefight, so he’ll need to take some shots and keep pressing forward if he’s to avoid accumulating too much damage.
