This week’s edition of Friday Night SmackDown will broadcast live from the Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Indiana, conveniently located just a short drive from Lucas Oil Stadium, the site of the upcoming Rumble PLE. The lineup for the January 31 2025 episode currently features a total of four scheduled matches.
Leading up to the Royal Rumble PLE, the Stamford-based wrestling promotion is preparing for the final show before the event on Friday Night SmackDown. This episode will focus on building anticipation for the Royal Rumble PLE with appearances from top stars like Cody Rhodes, Kevin Owens, LA Knight, Bianca Belair, and more. The confirmed match card for the upcoming show on 01/31 includes an eight-man tag match featuring Motor City Machine Guns and Los Garzas against Tag Champions DIY and Pretty Deadly. This match was arranged after Motor City Machine Guns defeated Pretty Deadly, earning themselves a title shot at the Royal Rumble PLE in a two out of three falls match.
Chelsea Green, the reigning Women’s United States Champion, will put her title on the line against Michin in an upcoming match on January 31. This bout marks a rematch of their January 10 encounter, which saw Green successfully retain her championship. The rematch was made possible after Michin joined forces with B-Fab to take down Green and Niven in a tag team match on the previous week’s show. Meanwhile, Naomi, one half of the Women’s Tag Team Champions, has had a busy week, competing on both Raw and NXT, and is now set to appear on the SmackDown go-home show. Naomi and her partner Bianca Belair recently defeated Liv Morganash Legend and Jakara Jackson on NXT. Naomi will now face off against Liv Morgan in a singles match on the January 31 episode of SmackDown.
Carmelo Hayes was originally scheduled to compete against Jimmy Uso on the last show, but due to a scuffle between Jimmy and Kevin Owens, a match between Jimmy and Kevin Owens was set as the main event instead. Meanwhile, The Miz tried to befriend Andrade, but Andrade wasn’t interested. As Jimmy Uso taunted The Miz on his way to the ring, he accidentally ran into Carmelo Hayes, which upset Hayes. This led to Hayes confronting Jimmy before their main event match. The tipping point for Hayes was when Jimmy insulted him, prompting Hayes to attack Jimmy during his entrance. Now, these two wrestlers are set to face each other in the upcoming go-home show before the Royal Rumble.
