The WWE Universe is set to close out 2024 with two major live shows, including the highly anticipated December 27 2024 episode of Friday Night SmackDown. Broadcast live from the Amalie Arena in Tampa, Florida, this edition marks the final episode of the Blue brand for the year, featuring appearances by several of WWE’s top stars.
Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes has confirmed his appearance after making a surprise announcement during the WWE Holiday Tour stop in Jacksonville on December 26. Rhodes has been recovering from injuries sustained when Kevin Owens ambushed him with a package piledriver following his successful title defense at Saturday Night’s Main Event. Rhodes’ return promises to add excitement to an already stacked card.
Last week’s SmackDown showcased The Bloodline’s dominance as Solo Sikoa, Jacob Fatu, and Tama Tonga defeated LA Knight, Apollo Crews, and Andrade in a six-man tag team bout. United States Champion Shinsuke Nakamura interfered in the match, targeting LA Knight and helping The Bloodline secure victory. Meanwhile, Kevin Owens sent a chilling warning to WWE management via video, holding the winged eagle belt as a sign of defiance. Drew McIntyre also escalated his feud with The Bloodline by confronting Solo Sikoa, vowing to take him down next.
In the Women’s Tag Team division, Bianca Belair and Naomi successfully defended their titles against Nia Jax and Candice LeRae, while Carmelo Hayes triumphed over Braun Strowman via count-out in a heated rematch. Johnny Gargano also emerged victorious in a clash with Alex Shelley, though interference from Tommaso Ciampa and Chris Sabin hinted at tensions brewing among these competitors.
The evening will feature a dark match between ‘Main Event’ Jey Uso and Chad Gable, the leader of the American Made faction. While both stars are typically associated with Raw, reports suggest that Gable and his faction, including the Creed Brothers and Ivy Nile, are likely to join the SmackDown roster in the New Year.
With appearances by Cody Rhodes, Nia Jax, LA Knight, Tiffany Stratton, and more, this edition of SmackDown promises to deliver a high-octane end to the year, setting the stage for what’s to come in 2025.
